Boston Town are close to signing a new long-term lease for their Tattershall Road ground.

Chairman Mick Vines says he's delighted the long-running saga is nearly over.

However, although the owners Sportsfunds have offered the club a new 20-year lease, Mr Vines is unhappy with the level of rent being demanded.

"If they want to be proper landlords and take £300 a month rent from us, then they should also agree to pay for the insurance, public liability and upkeep, which is something we've always paid for," he said.

"We'd be over the moon if Sportsfunds agreed to pay for the insurance and upkeep because we'd be able to afford to pay the rent. We just can't afford to pay both."

Mr Vines said the club was being supported over their stance on the rent by the FA.

There's been uncertainty for years over the future of Tattershall Road, with a planning application having been submitted to redevelop the site for housing and relocate both Boston Town and United to new grounds.

A new lease would also make the Poachers eligible for ground improvement grants.
