Harry is released by Mariners

Disappointment for young Poachers goalkeeper

Harry Ashton has been released by Grimsby Town.

The young goalkeeper has impressed at Tattershall Road since arriving as part of the deal that saw Callum Bastock heading to Blundell Park.

The Mariners' youth team boss Adam Smith has not offered a professional contract to any of the club's nine second-year scholars, including Ashton.

Smith told the Grimsby Telegraph: "Some of them can walk away with their heads held high because they've done their absolute best.

"But unfortunately it just wasn't quite enough to make that step up to the next level that is first team football."
