Boston United `running scared`

No pre-season friendly this summer between Town and United

Boston Town are furious that their York Street neighbours are refusing to play them in a friendly.

Officials claim Boston United are "running scared" after losing twice to the Poachers in their last three encounters.

The two rivals have only ever played one competitive match in 49 years - in the FA Cup in 1970.

But more recently they have met each other regularly in pre-season games, attracting healthy crowds.

Boston Town had hoped to arrange another fixture this summer but have been snubbed by the Pilgrims.

Tattershall Road officials say they were then further insulted by being offered a game against Boston United Reserves instead.

Boston Town have won two of the last three games between the two clubs - beating United 1-0 in 2007 and 2-0 in 2011.
