Holbeach 4, Boston Town 4

Poachers stage amazing Lincs Senior Trophy fightback

The Poachers lost a penalty shoot-out after an astonishing comeback against the UCL leaders.

Looking dead and buried at 4-0 down, Boston hauled themselves back to finish the game 4-4 after 90 minutes thanks to goals from Matt Kennedy (2), Jack Wightwick and Craig Mitchell.

But the home side were more clinical from the spot and won the tie 4-2 on penalties. Wightwick and Dan Barrett scored in the shout-out but Kennedy's effort was saved and Courtney Warren missed with his attempt.

There had been a feisty build-up to the tie, with Holbeach criticising their opponents after the original fixture was called off last week because Town's squad was ravaged by players either injured or unavailable.

In the event, the home side boasted plenty of experience including Tommy Treacher and Ollie Pinner while Boston's line-up was somewhat unfamiliar following the departure of Jordan Nuttell to Spalding. James Petronzio made a welcome competitive debut after recovering from a broken leg suffered in pre-season while Jack Burrows made his first appearance since August and Dan Barrett saw his first action since taking over as player manager.

Town: Drury, Lowe, Warren, Mitchell, Jackson, Lambley (Barrett), Wightwick, Borbely (Ashton), Burrows, Petronzio, Kennedy.
