Hall of Fame No. 13

Defensive linchpin recalls heady days of the 1993-94 FA Vase run

Derrick Nuttell (Defender, 1990-94)

Any number of Nuttells could arguably take their place in Boston Town's Hall of Fame.

The family have long been connected with our club both on and off the field, from the sterling efforts of John and Sandra Nuttell behind the scenes to players like father and son duo Micky and Jordan Nuttell.

We've selected Derrick Nuttell for his outstanding performances for the Poachers in the 1990s.

After a spell at York Street, he crossed over to the other side of town in 1990 and was a key part of the squad who helped guide the club through the transition from their briefly successful spell in the Central Midlands League to the new era of United Counties League football.

Derrick was a cornerstone of the Poachers defensive line-up for four seasons, making well over 150 appearances and chipping in with some important goals - none more important in retrospect than the ones he scored against Fakenham in the FA Vase in October 1993.

He went on to play in every Vase game that season as Boston reached the semi-finals and came within a whisker of a Wembley final.

Debut: 25 August 1990 - Borrowash H 5-4
