Hall of Fame No. 14

Larger than life defender is fondly remembered

Dennis Beatson (Defender, 1973-81)

Some of our Hall of Fame entrants are sadly no longer with us.

One such is legendary centre half Dennis Beatson, who was a cornerstone of the Boston FC side for much of 1970s.

An imposing defender, he was one of the first of what became an influential contingent of Sheffield-based players - later joined by the likes of Phil Scothorne, Mick Daley, "Harry" Rhodes and Doug Atter.

As well as being a reassuring presence in the Poachers' defence for the glory days of Midland League titles and FA Cup heroics, Dennis was also a great character off the field whose sense of humour epitomised the team spirit of that era.

Sheffield born and bred, he was a steelworker before starting his window cleaning business.

Dennis sadly died of a heart attack seven years ago at the age of 61 but will always be remembered fondly by fans and former team mates.

Debut: 22 September 1973 - Kimberley H 3-0
