Hall of Fame No. 29

The club's most successful manager was also a player for many seasons

Bob Don-Duncan (Defender 1975 - 1983)

How could we miss out Bob?

Quite simply, we couldn't. Our Hall of Fame is designed to showcase the 50 most legendary players in the club's history - which is why it doesn't include non-playing legends like Bill Stanwell, Diane Wilson, Mick Vines, Brian Curtis, John Nuttell, Pete and Pam Massam etc.

But Bob Don-Duncan deserves his place for being a player of no little repute as well as the most successful manager we've ever had.

First arriving at Tattershall Road from Holbeach in 1975, he quietly went about establishing himself as one of the most effective right-backs in the business.

It's not quite true to say that the all-conquering Boston FC side of the later 1970s was built on defence - we had a pretty good midfield and strike force too! - but there was certainly a reassuring sense of solidity at the back when the likes of McPherson, Don-Duncan, Beatson and Manning were lining up week after week.

Bob didn't score too many goals but when he did pop one into the net, it was usually significant or memorable. In our house, we still talk about the time he ghosted in unmarked at the back post to meet a cross and was celebrating before he even headed it in...

Debut: 23 August 1975 - Boston FC 0, Frickley 0
