Hall of Fame No. 37

Thoroughbred defender Brian Stone joins our Hall of Fame

Brian Stone (Defender, 1968 - 74)

By the end of the 1960s, Boston FC were no longer able to sign a string of high-pedigree players from the Football League as they had done in their early seasons.

So it was to the club's great credit that they brought thoroughbred defender Brian Stone to Lincolnshire at the same time as the experienced striker Bill Curry, who went on to become a successful manager at Tattershall Road.

Both had been on the books of Chesterfield alongside a certain fresh-faced Neil Warnock.

While Curry had been around the block, Stone never made the breakthrough at the Spireites - but their loss was our gain as he went on to become a firm favourite with the Boston FC fans.

For six seasons, Stone was a true leader on the field, helping the stabilise the club in an era of uncertainty and end what remains the longest trophy drought in its history as FC won the Lincs Senior A Cup in 1973-74.

Debut: 12 Oct 1968 - Boston FC 1, Lockheed Leamington 1
