Poachers sign Tony Battersby

Boss Mark Angel hails "vast experience" of ex-Sheffield United striker

Boston Town have signed veteran striker Tony Battersby.

The former Sheffield United, Lincoln City and Boston United goalgetter will add a wealth of experience to the Poachers' squad.

Battersby is one of the most travelled players around, having also notched up well over 100 Football League appearances.

New boss Mark Angel said: "I'm delighted to sign Tony for us.

"Tony has had a fantastic career both in the Football League, playing for Sheffield United, Boston United, Stevenage, Rushden & Diamonds and Cambridge, and at semi pro level.

"He will bring vast experience and is a striker who has scored goals at every level he's played. It's a great signing for us."

Battersby, 39, is one of the more high-profile players to arrive at the DWB Stadium in recent years - and he also has plenty of experience in the United Counties League. In 2013-14 he scored 10 goals while on the books of Spalding united and then Wisbech Town.

The evergreen forward has also had spells with a string of other non-league clubs including Grantham, Stamford, King's Lynn and Deeping Rangers.
