ON THIS DAY: FC v United

It was exactly 45 years ago that the two Boston sides met in the FA Cup

Boston FC 0, Boston United 4 (FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round)
24 October, 1970

Our only ever competitive match against Boston United took place exactly 45 years ago today.

Boston FC chairman Bill Stanwell had forecast a close game - and it was 0-0 at half-time before the Pilgrims ran away with it in the second half.

Although the result went against FC, he and his fledgling club - still only six years old at the time - gained huge plaudits for their hospitality.

How many people in the crowd of 2,700 who were at Tattershall Road that day would have imagined that 45 years later the two clubs would still be waiting for their second competitive encounter?
