Semi-final set for January

Poachers aiming for first trophy since 2009

Boston Town are scenting the chance of their first silverware for seven years.

Last week's win against Deeping Rangers earned them a place in the semi-finals of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy.

And victory over Potton also advanced them into the 2nd Round of the United Counties League Knockout Cup.

The Poachers will be favourites to win their county cup semi-final away to UCL Division One side Blackstones, which will take place on Wednesday 20 January.

The other semi-final is between Winterton Rangers and Barton Town Old Boys.

Recent finals of the competition have been held at Lincoln City's Sincil Bank ground, where Boston beat Winterton 2-0 to lift the cup on a memorable night in 2009. Their goals were scored by Paul Goodhand and Matt Kennedy and their line-up that night also featured Loz Lambley and Lori Borbely - but the trophy cupboard has been bare since then.

Changes to the format of the competition this season have been beneficial to clubs like Town.

The 2014-15 winners Stamford, together with other higher-ranked sides such as Grantham, have been moved up to an expanded Lincs Senior Cup.

In the last 16 of the UCL Knockout Cup, the Poachers will travel to Northampton Sileby Rangers.

They already know that victory would earn them a trip to Holbeach in the quarter-finals, with a possible home semi-final against Wisbech or Olney lying ahead.

No date has yet been fixed for the Northampton Sileby Rangers tie.
