Blackstones 2, Boston Town 1

Poachers knocked out of county cup by Blackstones

Boston Town suffered an agonising Lincs Senior Trophy exit at the hands of United Counties League Division One side Blackstones.

The Poachers looked in charge when Ryan Parnell put them ahead with a neat finish after 35 minutes following sterling build-up work on the left by Alex Beck.

But Sam Strange levelled for the hosts with 15 minutes left and disaster struck in the 87th minute when Michael Wood was judged to have been the last man as he brought down a Blackstones attacker. He was sent off and Dan Evans converted the resulting penalty to book a place in the final.

Town, who were missing the suspended Simon Ashton plus a host of ineligible players, were infuriated by some of the rough treatment handed out to Parnell and Lori Borbely. The visitors seemed to have adapted better to the rapidly freezing conditions, which made controlling the ball on an increaingly bobbly pitch something of a lottery. The combative Borbely had a fine game, while Parnell's pace regularly terrorised the Stones defence. Craig Parker was also in marauding form from left back while Richard Ford slotted in impressively alongside Wood in the back four.

Boss Mark Angel was angered not to be awarded a penalty as Parnell appeared to be fouled twice in quick succession in the first half.

Jason Callaby was drafted into central midfield in the starting line-up with new signing Alessandro Zarrelli stuck in a traffic jam on the A1. But despite the patched-up nature of their line-up, Boston will feel exasperated to have missed out on their chance of booking a cup final place.

Town: Doughty, Lambley, Parker, Fleming, Wood, Ford, Parnell, Jencsi, Beck, Borbely, Callaby (Zarrelli)
