Solid Poachers are on the up

Defensive form is the key to recent upturn in fortunes

Defensive solidity has been central to Boston Town's move away from the United Counties League relegation zone.

Two wins, two draws and just one defeat in their last five league games have seen Gary Frost's men go seven ponts clear of the bottom two.

And Boston have had the second best defensive record in the whole league over that period. They've conceded just four goals, bettered only by Northampton ON Chenecks with three.

It's a massive turnaround from earlier in the season when a tendency to leak goals proved costly in so many games - losing 6-1 at Yaxley, 5-1 at Rothwell and 5-0 at Peterborough Sports.

With James Lambley ever-present in goal since the end of November, Town's backline has had a much more consistent look about it in recent weeks, with Jason Field returning and new faces such as Bailey Forth and Jan Pinner joining stalwarts like Loz Lambley and Simon Ashton.

Having won at Chenecks and Eynesbury, the Poachers travel to Harborough tomorrow (25 Feb) looking for a rare hat-trick of consecutive away league victories.
