Boston Town 2 Yaxley 1

The Poachers bounced back from their Harborough horror show to earn a deserved three points.

They had to reshuffle their pack when Shane Clancy limped off after only a few minutes to be replaced by sub Josh Ford.

After a lethargic first half, Boston roared out of the blocks in the second period.

Mark Foster gave them the lead after 49 minutes following terrific work by Ford. His downward header from a pinpoint cross was bundled over the line by a Yaxley defender and Town should have been out of sight as they carved out a series of gilt-edged chances.

Sloppy defending at a corner gave the visitors an equaliser but eight minutes from time Ford was up-ended in the box.

Referee Trevor Basker confirmed the penalty despite Yaxley's protests and Ford converted it himself to clinch Boston's sixth win in eight outings which lifts them to ninth in the table.

Manager duo Matt Hocking and Ian Dunn must have been delighted with their side's response after Saturday's 4-0 reverse.

Ben Good returned to lead the line with a barnstorming display while Lori Borbely ran riot after the break and Boston United loanee James Reed was a class act in the middle of the park.

New keeper Harry Ashton also pulled off a stunning save to deny Yaxley following their most flowing move of the match.

He made an impressive debut after arriving from Grimsby with Callum Bastock heading in the opposite direction.

Town: Ashton, Leggett, Field, Pinner, West, Wilson, Borbely, Foster, Good (Maltby), Clancy (Ford), Reed.
