Boston Town to honour their 50 greatest players

By Simon Ashberry

Boston Town will unveil a Hall of Fame of their greatest players to mark the club's 50th anniversary.

The Poachers are celebrating their golden jubilee this year after forming in the summer of 1964.

The first member of the Hall of Fame will be revealed on Tuesday (26 August) - exactly half a century after Boston FC played their first competitive fixture.

In all, 50 legendary players will be honoured throughout the season.

Web editor Simon Ashberry said: "We want to pay tribute to those players who have made the biggest contributions to this club over the past five decades.

"It can be difficult to weigh up the merits of footballers from different eras but we think we've come up with a list of the 50 players who have made the most lasting impact, whether through prodigious goalscoring feats, outstanding skill or sheer loyalty and longevity."

The players chosen for the Hall of Fame will be published one by one here on the club's website at regular intervals during the 2014-15 season.
